Sweetnam & Bradley History

1955 Arthur Bradley and James Sweetnam form a partnership "SWEETNAM & BRADLEY" working on electrical assemblies at their first official premises at Bristol Road Malmesbury. Both came from an electronics background with Arthur Bradley working for the BBC where he was involved with radio and the early days of television.

1958  SWEETNAM & BRADLEY LTD incorporated

1968  Alan Dolman joins as our first Apprentice Sheet Metalworker

1970 We become the first Company to occupy purpose built premises on the old station site, next to the engine shed, which is the one building remaining from the old days of the railway.

1972  Office block added to new factory

1973  Custom Transformers Ltd is formed, taking over the transformer side of the business at Bristol Road while SWEETNAM & BRADLEY LTD concentrate on sheet metal at the old station site.

1975 Peter Atkinson joins as General Manager

1976  Peter Atkinson joins the board

         James Sweetnam retires from the company

1979  Richard Wiltshire joins as Works Accountant

1982  Michael Hannon joins as General Manager

1985  We become computerised in both production and administration. Our first CNC punching machine ( a Pega 344 ) is purchased from Amada

1988  Arthur Bradley retires from the Company

1989 Michael Hannon joins the board as Managing Director, Alan Dolman as Production Director and Richard Wiltshire as Financial Director.

        Peter Atkinson retires from the Company

1992  Our second CNC punching machine ( a Pega 357 ) is purchased from Amada

1993  6,000 sq. ft extension is added to the premises.

Achieved BS5750 Part 2 (Now BS EN ISO9002)          certification.

1996  Old office block completely refurbished and a further 3,500 sq. ft extension added

1997  Our third CNC punching machine ( a Vipros 255 ) is purchased from Amada

1998  The purchase of seven new computers is the final step in our preparation for millennium compliance

1998  40 years in business (3rd November 1998)

2000  No 'Millennium bugs' encountered!

2003  Achieved BS EN ISO 9001:2000 certification

2004  Alan Dolman retires from the company.

2005  Sweetnam & Bradley gain 'Investors in People' recognition.

2006  Mezzanine Stores area built.
